Belly Dancing Instruction Lessons Workshops NJ Ballroom Salsa Dance classes lessons NJ

Leila has been an admired belly dancer for the past 16 years. She is the founder, director and choreographer of “The Veils of the Nile” belly dance troupe which was established in 1998. Leila shares her artistic passion for dance through her teaching and has become a sought out instructor for the past decade. She teaches beginner to advanced level students and is available for group and private lessons. Leila also promotes special workshops and student showcases as an integral part of her teaching at the Continental Dance Club.

Leila specializes in group choreography, stage props and drum solos. Her artistic and creative style promoted her as one of the most exciting belly dancers in the tri state area. Leila has engaged woman of all ages and ethnic backgrounds to embrace this beautiful art form. She is a motivational and articulate instructor who has inspired many students who have studied with her over the years. Her tri-lingual background and fluency in Spanish has also been a true asset during her teaching career.

Leila’s teaching style emphasizes her strong foundation in Egyptian technique. She educates her students about various Middle Eastern dance rhythms, culture and the history of belly dance. Leila also discusses the importance of dance posture, stage presence and an unveiling of emotion while preparing her students to perform. Her technical skills, patience and humor allow for her classes to be most informative and enjoyable.

Leila has studied belly dance, referred to as “Raks Sharki” at the New York Egyptian Academy of Middle Eastern Dance established by legendary Egyptian teachers Yousry and Nourhan Sharif. Her ongoing training with mentors Nourhan Sharif and Dalia Carella have inspired her and pave the way for her exquisite and innovative dance style. Leila has also studied with world renowned teachers including Aida Nour, Lubna Eman, Samara, Aszmara, Tamallyn Dallal, Bozenka, and Mario Parra (flamenco).

Over the years, Leila has integrated a modernized fusion of Middle Eastern and Latin dance styles which have become an integral part of her belly dance repertoire. She continues to embellish her dance style with her skillful use of instruments and stage props including zils (finger cymbals), canes, fans and her favorite silk veils.

Leila exciting performances have been shared at various functions including corporate events, fund raisers for Cancer Research, family parties, “haflas” (parties shared with other belly dancers), restaurants, and student showcases. Leila is also a favorite Children’s hula and birthday party performer. She has mesmerized her audience with her hypnotic, zesty and sensuous movements followed by her pulsating interpretation of drum rhythms.

Leila’s professional career as a school psychologist enhances her ability to empower individuals to reach their potential. Similarly, her mission in teaching dance is to inspire her students to “unveil” their unique beauty within. Leila strives to maintain a healthy balance between her passion for work and dance. She promotes belly dancing as a great means for exercise, toning and great fun. “Belly dancing is truly therapeutic. It allows for an artistic expression of emotion while enhancing one’s energy, strength and an overall well being.”
